As the first Chinese law firm to provide legal services for Chinese enterprises "going out", overseas investment and cross-border mergers and acquisitions, Tian Yuan has played an important role in a series of Chinese enterprises going out and the "Belt and Road" projects:
- Undertaken China Three Gorges Corporation’s Karot Hydropower Project (on a Build-Own-Operate-Transfer basis) in Pakistan, which is one of the first batch of projects implemented under the Belt and Road Initiative and the first investment project of the Silk Road Fund.
- Acquired the Portuguese power company on behalf of China Three Gorges Corporation. This marks the first instance of a major Chinese state-owned enterprise winning the bid to acquire a significant stake in an international large-cap listed company.
- Led the EPC+F financing project of POWERCHINA’s 730MW combined cycle power plant project in Rumaila, which is the first sovereign guarantee project for the private sector since the post-war reconstruction of Iraq.
- Provided legal services for China Yangtze Power Co., Ltd. in its bid to acquire the equity of a Peruvian power distribution company divested by Sempra Energy. This was the largest overseas acquisition project by a Chinese enterprise since 2019 and one of the largest global power industry M&A projects in the past three years.
